Samaya - Harpreet Bansal
Harpreet Bansal is a Norwegian/Indian violinist and composer from Oslo. She is trained in raga (classical Indian music), jazz and folk music and has gained wide recognition as an innovative interpreter of the North Indian classical music tradition. Playing her violin, Harpreet brings relentless creativity and passion, stylistic focus and intensity to each performance. Her music is a mastery of multiple traditions and the perfect blending of them.
Bansal has worked both as soloist, ensemble leader and ensemble musician in a wide range of styles, collaborating with renowned artists including Javid Afsari Rad, Sukhvinder Singh Namdhari, Bugge Wesseltoft, Nils-Olav Johansen, Trygve Seim, Svante Henryson, Unni Løvlid, Rolf-Erik Nystrøm. As a soloist, she has given concerts in England, India, Germany, Czech Republic, Sweden, Denmark, Belgium, Holland, Spain, Canada, Taiwan, Poland.
Bansal Band is Harpreet’s ensemble. Accompanied by Vojtěch Procházka (harmonium), Andreas Bratlie (table, percussion, voice), Adrian Fiskum Myhr (bass) and Javid Afsari Rad (santur), the group generates luxurious variation and textures, creating a fuller harmonic landscape for melodies and improvisations to travel. The band brilliantly explores different moods, often creating sub-variations within themselves, and seamlessly incorporates diverse elements from equally diverse musical traditions. The result is an unequivocal authenticity of tonal choice and techniques, creating music that is an organic, breathing unity, filled with joy, passion and life.
Bansal Band’s second album was nominated for the 2018 Norwegian Grammy Awards.
